This shouldn't be anything new to us, "Pakistan batting collapses", we've seen loads of times in the recent past and Pakistan's batting woes continued after their middle order collapsed in 1st Twenty20 match against the Kiwis. Pakistan had raced to 58/1 in just 5.5 overs but Tim Southee was the hero for New-Zealand (NZ) as he struck five times in nine deliveries as Pakistan collapsed from 58/1 to 68/6 with ten overs still to go. Southee used his height and pace to destroy Pakistan's middle order on a quick, hard surface, and throwing in the odd slower ball to keep the batsmen guessing.
Pakistan's lower order led by Wahab Riaz (30*) and Umar Gul (30) offered some resistance and took Pakistan to a respectable total of 144/9 in twenty overs.
However 144 was not going to be enough on a ground where anything that beat the infield would go for a boundary and Kiwis response led by Martin Guptill was off to a brisk start.
Martin Guptill began NZ's innings as he smashed Abdul Razzaq for 15 in his first over. He than took on Shoaib Akhtar and hit a giant six over square-leg. Guptill scored 53 runs off just 23 deliveries and was later run out. NZ captain Ross Taylor also contributed with well paced 39 not out.
Pakistan will also be disappointed by the fact that there were some decision that we made against them. Umar Akmal was give leg-before but replays show that he had actually hit the ball his bat. James Franklin was also not given out when he was stumped even though the replays showed that his foot was on the line.
Final result though, NZ had the 1st blood as they completed the win in 17.1 overs with 5 wickets remaining. This should serve some wakeup call for the Pakistani batsmen and they should learn from their mistakes here and hopefully comeback strongly in the next match.
