Pakistan vs West Indies, 1st ODI preview

Just look at the squad for both teams, you will find some big names missing in there from both teams such as Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Kieron Pollard, Umar Gul, Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal.

However, a victory in the opening Twenty20 match suggested that Darren Sammy's side is not entirely without hope, and will fancy their chances of overturning an ugly World Cup quarter-final loss to Pakistan in Mirpur, 31 days ago.

Notable too is the return of Marlon Samuels for his first ODI since being banned for inappropriate dealings with an illegal bookmaker. It is nearly a year since Samuels became eligible to return.

The big problem for Pakistan is their batsmen, can they step up their game? Bowling has been impressive as always but it's the batting that has been a huge problem for them recently. They have some very talented youngster in squad but they have the tendency to throw their wicket away. Which means there will a huge responsibility of Misbah-ul-Haq who in recent months has been Pakistan's most productive batsman. Another concern will be weather Afridi's batting form and will he realise the situation and not play brainless shots.

Overall this will a good contest to watch and a win for either team can set the tone for the remainder of the series.
