Afridi as a Twenty20 opener? GOOD CHOICE!

I was on facebook a couple of minutes ago and found out that Shahid Afridi, Pakistan cricket team's limited overs captain has said that he will be opening the innings in upcoming Twenty20 series again New Zealand. Now I read the comments under the post and most of them read something along the lines "NOOOO, he's not a good opener, it's not a good option". Well I totally disagree with what these guys say and here's why.

I think it is a really good and brave decision by Afridi to decide to open in Twenty20. First to all the people who say that he is not a good opener, may be you are forgetting this is not the first time Afridi is going to open the innings. He has done so numerous times in the past, in ODI's and even in tests and he has produced some very good knocks at that position as well. Twenty20 is a format that is much shorter than ODI's or test and if someone like Afridi, who has the capability to make bowlers wet their pants, opens batting and gets going can put a lot of pressure on the opponent bowlers.

Now some people will say "But what if he gets out". Well okay, that can apply any opener. I mean, I am sure he wouldn't just want to get out on purpose and come to think of it, it's Twenty20 cricket, you have to take some risks! Now some might also point to the pitches/conditions in New Zealand but Afridi is the type of player who doesn't really care about the type of pitch or conditions. He is a player is who go after the bowlers no matter. We've seen him bashing bowlers in almost every condition so that shouldn't be a problem for him.

Besides who else is there currently in the squad that is a good Twenty20 opener and please don't say Razzaq because he I my opinion is more of a finisher rather than an opener. Pakistan doesn't have the services of Kamran Akmal or Salman Butt either and again it's Twenty20 cricket and you need someone who can provide you with a brisk start and I think the best person in the squad right now for opening in Twenty20s is without a doubt BOOM BOOM Afridi.
